Samy Vellu's Action Unprofessional, Says Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Former MIC deputy president Datuk S.Subramaniam Sunday described as unprofessional and childish party president Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu's move to campaign for one of the three candidates running for the deputy presidency at the party polls on Sept 12.

"He (Samy Vellu) should have nominated himself as a candidate for the deputy president's post, then it will be okay for him to campaign," he told reporters, here.

He was commenting on Samy Vellu's endorsement of his favoured candidate for the deputy president's post at the nomination at the MIC headquarters here yesterday.

Subramaniam is one of the three candidates for the post of deputy president, the others being incumbent Datuk G. Palanivel and vice-president Datuk S.Sothinathan.

Subramaniam said Samy Vellu's open support for his favoured candidates and rejection of those he did not like was unprofessional and would put pressure on the delegates and cause a break-up in the party.

Samy Vellu was elected uncontested as the MIC president for the 11th term in March.

Subramanian also criticised Samy Vellu for dilly-dallying on when he would hand over the party to his deputy.

He said Samy Vellu, before announcing his intention to contest the presidency for the 11th term, had promised that he would step down in September after the new deputy president had been elected.

"After that, he said he will step down after training the elected deputy president for one year, but later he said he will step down after completing his term in 2012, and then it will be 2015. This shows that he is unprofessional and is dilly-dallying," he said.
